National STEM Winners

Congratulations to Year 9 iSTEM - Marwa A, Hayley B and Sarah H with their teacher Mr Aaron Campbell who were the winners of the STEM Curators Award Secondary and the major award - Data For Good: Data in STEM at the STEM MAD National Catholic Education Conference in Melbourne for their Big Brain Bin project.
These students represented the Maitland Newcastle Diocese by producing the Big Brain Bin which is a capacity conscious bin attachment that measures and gathers data around bin usage. In this product a sensor is fitted within a standard garbage bin which alerts cleaning staff to when bins require emptying and to gather data around areas that require more rubbish receptacles. This sensor system utilised ultrasonic components and Arduino technology that the students had to learn and code.
A very proud and high achievement for these girls and the College.
