At St Catherine’s, our Aboriginal Education program is led by a dedicated team including Mr Bennetts, Miss Barnes and Aunty Lisa. Together, they support and guide over 150 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students within our school community, ensuring every student feels seen, supported and proud of who they are.
Aboriginal Education is at the heart of our commitment to building a culturally safe, inclusive and respectful environment for all. We celebrate and honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures through authentic experiences, strong relationships and meaningful opportunities for connection.
Our students are actively engaged in both Primary and Secondary Aboriginal Dance groups, where they learn, perform and share culture with pride. These groups provide a powerful space for students to express identity, build confidence and strengthen their connection to culture and community.
We also run our Little Sista Cultural Group (Primary) and Sista Cultural Group (Secondary), led by Miss Barnes and Aunty Lisa. These groups offer a safe and supportive space for students to come together, learn, yarn and grow—both culturally and personally.
A key part of our program is connecting with community. Through excursions and ongoing partnerships, including our work with Uncle Warren, students are given the opportunity to learn from respected knowledge holders and deepen their understanding of culture, history and Country.
Our Aboriginal Education initiatives are supported across the school, with staff working collaboratively to ensure cultural perspectives are embedded in everyday learning and school life.
We are proud of the strong sense of identity, belonging and cultural pride that continues to grow within our school community.
